Search engine optimization The very basics

Search engine optimization (SEO) is all the techniques that increase the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results, like Google, Yahoo or Bing.
How can I start doing SEO?
To understand what actions have an important impact in SEO, let’s get under the basics:
Quality of traffic.
You can attract all the visitors in the world, but if they’re coming to your site because Google tells them you’re a resource for Apple computers when really you’re a farmer selling apples, that is not quality traffic. Instead you want to attract visitors who are genuinely interested in products that you offer.
Quantity of traffic.
Once you have the right people clicking through from those search engine results pages (SERPs), more traffic is better.
Organic results.
Ads make up a significant portion of many SERPs. Organic traffic is any traffic that you don’t have to pay for.
So now you know the very basic concepts of SEO, you should know what things you can improve directly and what you can not.
SEO On-site
This covers all the technical improvements you can do at server, programming and design of your site level. Elements within a desired landing page that determine a site’s relevance and ranking. These include well-written content, proper HTML tags and syntax, clear site-mapping, multiple types of media on a page (images, videos, etc.), and more.
SEO Off-site
This depends more on the popularity of your site and the trust of other to your content. Elements outside of your website that influence interactions with search engines. These include inbound links to your site and your external social media profiles and activity. Off-site SEO is critical to establishing relevance in your online community because it relies on the recommendations of other users to recognize and use your content.

Other factors to consider
Inbound Links
Also referred to as “backlinks”, inbound links are created when another website creates a link within their page that directs back to your site. Inbound links help websites establish relevance since search engines assess the quantity and quality of inbound links each site receives.
Link Equity
Link equity describes how influential a site is to the internet. It measures whether or not a link will help a website rank higher in a search engine result. Links that use the rel=nofollow attribute direct users to a new page and therefore do not pass equity to the specified link.
MozTrust
MozTrust represents how much trust a web page has on the Internet. Older, more reputable brands tend to have higher MozTrust scores. The score is between 0 and 10. The higher the score, the more trust Google will tend to have for a web page.
MozRank
MozRank represents a link popularity score. It reflects the importance of any given web page on the Internet. The score is between 0 and 10 and is similar to Google’s proprietary PageRank algorithm. The higher the score, the better the web page tends to do in search results.
